Wine and Chocolate Make the Perfect Pair

The rule of thumb is simple enough: Rich, intense chocolates need rich, intense wines, and the darker the chocolate, the darker the wine. Pamper yourself—and your palate—by matching chocolates with deep red-fruit flavors to wines with the same notes.

With that in mind, please both your inner wine connoiseur and your inner chocoholic with these pairings:

  • Humble Pie Cabernet with Valrhona 85% Dark Bar – Humble Pie's tart black currant, vanilla bean, and cedarwood deftly handle the distinctive bitterness of Valrhona's dark chococlate bar.
  • Doppio Passo Primitivo with Willie’s Cacao Madagascan Gold Bar – These two were made for each other. Both boast notes of deep fruit flavors like blackberries and rich red fruits.
  • Cornicelli Casa Rossa Red with Michel Cluizel 45% Milk Bar – Casa Rossa is the perfect to sweet dishes, and chocolate definitely counts. The match of its fruity flavors, particularly strawberries and raspberries, with Michel Cluizel's rich, caramelly milk chocolate is the wine-and-chocolate equivalent of a deep, happy sigh.

Chocolate Makes Everything Better, Even Steak

Behold: Cocoa-Seasoned Steaks

Thick, juicy Rib-eyes and New York Strip Steaks are shot through with hints of sweet and spicy from our two new rubs: Cocoa Espresso and Five Chile Cocoa.

The Cocoa Espresso rub transforms your steak with decadent flavor from layers of dark espresso powder, natural cocoa, and accents of sea salt, sugar, and chili powder. If your mind is already swirling at the thought of that veritable chorus of delicious, just imagine what your taste buds will do.

But wait! There's more!

As you might guess, our Five Chile Cocoa rub has a bit of a kick to it. Check this out: Hand-grated Mexican chocolate and just a pinch of cinnamon have been expertly blended with earthy Guajilio, Ancho, and Chipotle peppers for a warm, sweet mixture that has a jolt of savory.

What you get from both is a mouth-watering mix of sugar and spice hearty enough for your backyard get-togethers and elegant enough for your best Cab, or Valetine's Day dinner. (That was a hint.)

Chocolate Cheese Balls Are Delicious. FYI.

We admit, we were a little hesitant when we first heard that a little group of our Deli/Cheese and Chef-Prepared Experts were crafting Chocolae Cheese Balls especialy for our A Chocolate Affair event. We just love chocolate and cheese so much on their own that we couldn't quite see how those two greatest-things-ever would go together.

Note to self: Trust the experts. Turns out, chocolate and cheese go together just fine. So fine, in fact, that one wonders where these creations have been for one's whole life.

If you do nothing else during A Chocolate Affair (and we really hope that's the case), you absolutely must try our Chocolate Cheese Balls. We have three varieties made with sweet chocolate and snappy goat cheese and cream cheese that brings just enough unexpected tang that will make you smile:

  • Chocolate, Pistachio and Cherry with cream cheese – dried cherries and pistachios are rolled in to chocolate-flavored creem cheese.
  • Chocolate, goat cheese, Orange, and Hazelnut – the orange zest adds an extra bit of zing!
  • White Chocolate, Raspberry – cream cheese, goat cheese, and raspberry purée and white chocolate whavings are rolled into a pink-and-white ball of tangy sweetness.

For maximum enjoyment, serve with plain crackers and let the chocolate take center stage.

Fall in Love with Brownies All Over Again

Handmade every day by our Expert Bakers, our oh-so-delicious brownies are chocolate at heart, stuffed to busting, and heaped high with peanuts, coconut, cream cheese, pecans, and walnuts. Look for these varieties:

  • Chewy Chocolate – Chocolate, straight.
  • Coconut Cream Cheese – We upped the ante on our Chewy Chocolate brownie with a thick, rich toppng of roasted coconut blended with cream cheese.
  • Raspberry Cream Cheese – A topping of tart raspberries and cream cheese make your tastebuds tingle while the foundation of chewy chocolate makes your soul happy.
  • Peanut Butter –  Chocolate and peanut butter have been a winning combo forever. Our version stuffs our Chewy Chocolate brownie with peanuts, then tops the whole thing with a layer of peanuts. So if you like peanuts, this is the dessert for you.
  • Turtle – Think of this on as "caramel pecan," complete with all the wonderful flavors that come along with it. We swirl caramel into the brownie batter for a more intense taste.
  • Brown Butter Toffee Blondie – This one is our twist on a traditional blondie. Our Bakers added a new depth of flavor with a dose of hazelnut.

Don’t forget our new breakfast-worthy fruit bars that border on indulgent—Pecan, and Apricot, Figs and Pecan. Our Pecan Bars feature a shortbread crust topped with a rich mixture of caramel and pecans for an extremely buttery, nutty treat. As for the Apricot, Fig, and Pecan bar, brown sugar and buttery caramel cradle figs and apricots and cranberries. Oh. My.

DIY Crowd-Pleasers for the Big Game

Dips and Salsa
Let's save your star dip till the end, and start here: Spinach Artichoke Dip is a sure-fire hit. We make ours with three cheeses and mayo. But how about our take on Chile Con Queso Dip? That's "Chile" with an "e," as in green chiles. Choose the right chiles and dial up the heat on this one!

Salsa is another must-have for your watching-party. We've got nothing against "regular" salsa, but see what you think of:

You also can give a nod to the bi-coastal quality of the big game with a quick 30-minute, good, old-fashioned Crab Dip.

Now to the Texas King of Dips: Guacamole. Natch. While it's hard to make a bad batch of guac, you definitely know it when you've gotten a hold of one. Make sure that doesn't happen on your watch.

Treat your guest to some homemade

We love salsa, and we love guacamole. But do you know what else we love? Hummus. We love hummus. Add Roasted Red Pepper Hummus to your dips-and-salsas line-up for something deliciously different.

Sturdier Stuff
You're in for a long night, what with pre-pre-game shows, commercials, halftime, commercials, and a little bit of football in between, so you might need something a little heavier than chips-n-salsa. I was taught a simple rule about what makes good game-watching food: Napkins, yes. Knife and fork, no. To that end, think "The Big Three":

Of course, these are just a few super snacks for game day. Let us know some of your favorites, and check out tons more recipes here!

We have Flavor Down Cold

How is Cold Pressed different from other juicing methods?

Most fresh juices usually are made by a fast-revolving metal blade spinning against a mesh filter to extract juice from fruits and vegetables. The spinning creates heat that breaks down the nutrients in juicing ingredients, leaving you with a juice that’s not as nutrient-rich as it could be.
Not so with Central Market’s cold pressed juices. Because no heat is involved in the process, our cold pressed juices are more nutrient-packed than other juices, making them a great addition to a lifestyle focused on health and wellness.

What makes Central Market juices special?

That’s an easy one. Or rather, an easy four:

  • Appearance. Because cold pressed juices have less pulp or fibers that other juices, you’re in for juice with a color as vibrant and pure as its flavor.
  • Texture. You won’t find a trace of grittiness in our juices. Less pulp and fibers also equals a much smoother texture. After all, you shouldn’t have to chew your glass of juice, right?
  • Taste. Imagine if you were able to bottle the crisp, sweet, clear taste of the first bite of a fresh fruit. Then imagine if that bottle was available at your local Central Market. That’s what we’re talking about.
  • Variety and Quality. Central Market cold pressed juices are made fresh daily using only newly harvested, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices. Our Produce Experts then measure each ingredient following specific recipes to create more than 30 exclusives juices, most of which are brand new!

Try them all and find your favorite!
