Rock the Goat: Central Market Launches New Artisan Goat Cheese Spreads

Here’s how we do it. We start with creamy, dreamy goat cheese from Cherry Glen Farm, a 58-acre agricultural reserve in Montgomery County, Maryland. The fine folks there single-handedly breed and milk show-quality, blue-ribbon Alpine, Toggenburg, Saanen and LaMancha goats and produce award-winning goat cheese recognized by the American Cheese Society.

To maintain quality control, they milk twice a day, seven days a week, and they do not import any milk from third-party suppliers. In addition, Cherry Glen uses no animal rennet; instead the cheese is produced using vegetable rennet. These farmers also care about the planet: to help reduce their carbon footprint, they installed a solar-powered system for their facility.

So now that you feel good about the foundation, let’s talk about the accoutrements. We fold in high-quality ingredients, such as European Morello cherries, vine-ripened tomatoes, caramelized yellow onions, aged balsamic vinegar and agave nectar to create incredible flavor profiles. Spread on your favorite crackers, our artisan goat cheese spreads would make a fine starter at your next dinner party, but try one on your next turkey sandwich, too. Choose from one of these gourmet varieties:

Sour Cherry
European Morello and tart dried cherries kissed with sweet spices and a splash of red Burgundy wine.

Fig & Almond
The sweetness of figs with nutty almond notes and bright hints of orange, lemon and lime.

Balsamic Onion
Caramelized yellow onions, leeks, shallots and red onions with rich aged balsamic vinegar and fragrant orange.

Tomato Pesto
Vine-ripened tomatoes, olive oil, basil and garlic with a touch of agave nectar.

Bordeaux for Your Burger

While your burgers are on the grill, start with a chilled glass of Château Barat Blanc 2010. Owned by Thierry Lurton of the famous Lurton family of France, this white wine is bright, lively and bursting with citrus notes and a hint of green apple. Fresh on the palate, it’s the perfect wine to keep you company while manning the hot grill!

When those juicy burgers are ready, pop open one or both of these friendly, approachable reds from Bordeaux. Château Barat Rouge—90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet and 5% Malbec—is smooth yet structured, with a ripe fruitiness and a touch of vanilla oak. The highly rated Château de Macard 2009 is ripe and dense but fresh, with silky textured plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit carried by sweet spice and Maduro tobacco notes. The fleshy finish shows nice drive. It’s a fine blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

All of these selections, priced at $12.95 each while supplies last, are an incredible deal—and only at Central Market!

Cloth Diapers Get a Modern Makeover

So why choose CuteyBaby? For one thing, disposable diapers are expensive. It can cost up to $3,000 a year to keep a baby in disposable diapers until he or she is potty trained. For another, disposable diapers are horrible for the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, about 18 billion disposable diapers are thrown into landfills each year.

CuteyBaby offers a three-part diapering system that saves money and keeps unnecessary waste out of the landfills. Here’s how it works. First, choose a cute That’s a Wrap! waterproof diaper cover. Lay in a Super Duper Soaker four-layer soaker pad. Then top it off with a Keep It Clean! 100% viscose liner sheet that not only helps lifts solids out of the diaper, but it’s also flushable, biodegradable and comes in a 100-count roll.

Central Market Debuts New Line of Fresh-Baked Cookies

“These cookies are the delicious, wholesome goodness cookies used to be,” says Central Market bakery leader Edouard Damez. “But we’ve upped the ante with fresh flavor profiles and combinations you won’t find anywhere – like Pretzel Logic loaded with potato chips, chocolate and pretzels or dreamy blueberry & cream.”

Our all-natural cookies are baked in-store daily, and they contain no trans-fats, preservatives, or artificial flavors and colors. Better still, the cookies are packaged in a special wood box imported from France that’s designed to go in the oven. So go ahead and pop the whole six-pack in the oven, wooden box and all. Just make sure the temp is 440 degrees or less.

To celebrate the sweetness, all Central Market locations are hosting a cookie happy hour, June 22-23, from 3-6 pm. Each six-pack is $3.50, and for every one that you buy, you get a free 14-ounce Promised Land milk, in all varieties except heavy cream. Choose your six-pack from the varieties below:

Join the Burger Revolution at Central Market June 22-July 5

But here’s the other thing. We aren’t really into all-beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun. We want to create a new order of extraordinary burgers with palate-pleasing patties, tantalizing toppings and beautiful buns. Think cranberry Gorgonzola turkey burgers and Thai shrimp patties, cilantro pecan pesto and Original Glop, and brioche buns and pretzel bread.

We even wrote a Burger Manifesto and posted it on Facebook to prove our loyalty to this new order.

To get you in the mood for Central Market’s inaugural Burger Revolution, here are some inspired ideas for building a better burger. The next time you shop, visit centralmarket.com on your smartphone and get a list of ingredients for these burger beauties.

Surf ‘n’ Turf Burger
Kobe beef on a toasted brioche roll, topped with grilled shrimp, fresh tarragon, grilled asparagus and horseradish mayo.

Salmon Burger
Grilled salmon burger on an everything bagel, topped with avocado, Brie, yellow bell peppers, mesclun and caper mayo.

Lamb Burger
Lamb patty on a crusty ciabatta roll, topped with crumbled feta, grilled eggplant, Kalamata olives, roma tomatoes, fresh mint and tzatziki.

Cheddar Apple Burger
Cowboy patty on a pain au lait bun, topped with English Red Leicester cheese, Granny Smith and Jonagold apple slices, applewood smoked bacon, and Inglehoffer grain mustard.

Mushroom Burger
Turkey patty on a 3-seed bun, topped with assorted wild mushrooms, such as chanterelles, oyster and Hen of the Woods, plus fresh sage, red onion, Comté Swiss and pesto mayo.

However, the Burger Revolution isn’t only about burgers. It’s also about sensational sides, such as Chef Prepared picnic salads in new flavors like farro vegetable with mint vinaigrette, Sicilian-style cauliflower with whole wheat pasta, orecchiette with walnuts and feta cheese, and so many more.

Join us for the Burger Revolution, June 22-July 5, at your Central Market store. Together, we can build a more perfect burger.
